Latchingdon: Christ Church

Christ Church, Latchingdon is a Gothic revival church, dating to 1856 and built to the designs of J P St Aubyn.  It became a Grade II Listed Building as of 15th January 2020.

The Parish Priest is Rev. Andrew Appiah, the Church Warden is Mrs Moir Gunfield and the Secretary is Mrs Maggie Minister.

Being a church founded school, we have close links with the Church which is within a 2 minute walk from the school and the whole school attends the Church for services at Harvest Festival, Christmas and Easter.  Due to the space within the Church and the number of pupils we currently have we are, unfortunately, currently unable to invite parents/carers to attend these services.

As a Church of England Primary School daily assemblies, involving an act of worship are held each day.  Parents have the right to withdraw their children from collective worship.  This right can be exercised for any reason and notice of withdrawal needs to be given in writing to the Headteacher.  Children who are withdrawn from collective worship are supervised in an appropriate alternative activity.

Our daily assemblies and services at the Church are very important to us.   For over 10 years a group of KS2 children have taken part in a very successful Worship Group.  They meet once a month, at lunchtime, to share ideas and raise money for charitable organisations.  During 2019/2020 they organised a sponsored walk which raised over £900 for new reading books for the school.

For the academic year 2023-2024 we have 12 members and so far this year they have arranged a very successful Harvest Festival collection in aid of The Dengie Food Pantry in Southminster.
